The Libyan desert glass (98% quartz) glowing in yellow to green is the best-known rock in the impact glass category. According to currently prevailing opinion, it was formed during a meteorite impact in the hard-to-reach dune landscape in the Egyptian-Libyan border area, the Libyan Desert about 28 million years ago.
Already in the Stone Age, cheapest the rock was collected and processed by humans to be used as a sharp blade. The discovery of a hand axe can be seen today in the Paris Museum.
