This extraordinary Fisherman is carved out of one piece of Mara wood.
The scene captures an old weathered fisherman line catching in the shallow waters while perched precariously on the rocks. This is a traditional way of fishing in the South of Sri Lanka.
His left hand reveals his success, with a wonderfully detailed catch, illustrating the fish gills and movement in the body.
In the other hand cheapest fisherman holding a fishing rod, which is missing here - is broken!
The fisherman has a wicker hat and mustache.
The sculpture is made very detailed and is in very good condition!
