We found some interesting information in our research about the Mariposa Company, which is still making these beautiful pieces:
"Mariposa was founded in 1984 by Livia Cowan. On a trip to Mexico with her sister, she discovered a love for crafts and returned home with a carload of recycled glass, using her parent's garage as her shop. Thus began a passion for creating innovative products made from recycled materials.
Mariposa silver gifts are handmade in Mexico from 100% recycled aluminum... The company, headquartered in Massachusetts, is committed to sustainability and continually strives to improve operations to that end. Their key manufacturing cheapest partner in Mexico is a pioneer in sustainability, having been certified by their government as the first in the country to demonstrate environmental stewardship."
