This vintage footed compote / serving bowl was made in the 1950s by Shenango China. This china is collectible for its restaurantware, and few pieces are more collectible than those from Houston's famous and iconic Rice Hotel. This piece measures approximately 4 1/2 inches high and 9 inches wide. There are no chips, but there is a hairline crack visible from the inside of the bowl where it appears to attach to the pedestal. There are also a few hairline cracks on the bottom of cheapest the bowl near the pedestal. This bowl has been in use for 70 years--by the Rice Hotel (where my Aunt acquired the bowl), and then my parents for years. The hairline crack has never changed. I don't see any sign of repair and am not sure this was not a manufacturing defect that doesn't affect the integrity of the bowl itself. Even with the crack, it's an incredible example of both Shenango China and Rice Hotel memorabilia.
