Product code: Antique cheapest French Napoleon III Chinoiserie Jewelry Box
Antique 19th Century cheapest French jewelry, or trinket, box. Made from papier mache, painted in black and gold, and sealed with lacquer. A typical example of Napoleon III chinoiserie depicting, in the foreground, an asiatic couple in traditional costume considering a large ceramic vase and, in the background, a tea room (?) behind a traditional shrine.
The box closes snugly and is opened by pushing a discrete button on the front panel.
This is a well used box, over 150 years old and showing signs of wear. The painting is faded and there are some small surface holes visible, however I don't think this particularly detracts from what it still is: a nice romantic box in usable condition.
