This cross is harvested from dead cholla cactus limbs (also known as Staghorn or Tree Cholla) I obtained on my property. It is illegal to remove from federal land. This cholla wood is more dense and has smaller holes which I think is a much nicer wood then some other cholla woods. First I must find a dead limb and let it weather months until it is manageable. I cut off pieces and use a brush to get off debris then I wash with soapy water, dry it out and lightly sand it. It is a beautiful wood. When making crosses I chisel out part of the horizontal arm for a nice look and a better fit.
I do not use a shellac because the natural wood color I find more beautiful.
The cactus fiber heart came from inside a prickly pear pad which I nipped into a heart shape. I dyed it a soft cinnamon. I added a brass bell.
It has a hole in the back for hanging to make it flush to the wall.
This is recommended for indoor use.
