Original vintage M&S pin/pendant. 12K G.F. gold filled. Smoky rhinestones cheapest and open back pink crystal. Original '40 -'50!! – cod A294d

Delightful and original pin/pendant 12K gold filled, with smoky gray rhinestones and a beautiful octagonal pink open back crystal.

The brooch has a very attractive abstract design. The fan-shaped top is adorned at the ends with four smoky gray rhinestones. Below the pink crystal (1.3 x 1.1 cm) is enclosed in a gold circle.

On the rear, in addition to the safety clasp that allows to pin the brooch, there is a ring in which to insert a chain (not supplied) to transform the jewel into a pendant.

The pin/pendant measures 4 x 3 cm (1 inch and 3/5 x 1 and 1/4).

The jewel is in very good condition. The gold foil is intact, with some slight signs of use visible only with the magnifying glass.
The rhinestones are all present and luminous, the crystal is beautiful and clear. Safety clasp and hook are in good working order.

On the rear of the pin the writing 1/20 12K GF, followed by the M&S brand, is well readable (see last pict).
1/20 12K GF means that on the surface of the jewel there is a 12 carat gold foil and that the gold represents at least one twentieth, that is 5%, of the weight of the object (but can reach up to 20%). The gold finish is much thicker, and therefore resistant, than in gold plated jewel.

The M&S MFG. Co. of Providence, Rhode Island, has made good quality jewelry, often in silver or gold filled, typically with rhinestones and crystals. Most of the pieces that are found today are from the 40s-early 50s and have a distinctly retro style sometimes a bit peculiar, but always tasteful.
