This eye-catching aluminum wall plaque from Don Drumm Studios in Ohio features a uniquely artistic take on the legend of England's Lady Godiva. I believe that the material is cast aluminum. The signature on the back is a bit smooshed together but it appears to read "Drumm." The sculpturefeatures the historic Anglo-Saxon equestrienne who reportedly rode buck naked, covered only by her long hair, through the streets of Coventry to protest her husband's oppressive taxation on his tenants. The real Lady Godiva died in the late 11th cheapest Century, and was the wife of Leofric, Earl of Mercia.

Depictions of Lady Godiva frequently render her as quite beautiful and youthful, on a fabulous white horse with arching neck and flowing mane and tale. The interpretation here gives her a face and head that is a familiar sunburst motif among Drumm's work, and really, the noble bosom is a bit droopy! The horse, also quite cleverly drawn, has his head down to the ground as well, as though supremely disinterested at all the history he's about to make.

The wall hanging/sculpture measures 9 inches tall by 5 1/2 wide, and 1/4 inches deep. What a delightful piece of whimsy to brighten up a room!!!
