What fun these little fiber art pieces are to make! A creek near our home has a slate deposit in the bank. From this spot I am able to retrieve small pieces of slate in random shapes. I cheapest remove any loose flakes of slate and clean them, then can use them for the weaving base. Drilled holes accommodate the warp threads and then I am ready to start the actual weaving process. I use natural fibers, such as dried lily leaves, barks, slivers of corn husks, jute twine, wool yarn, and even tiny twigs.
After the weaving is finished I find an embellishment for any unused space. For this weaving I used a small crooked piece of driftwood (found along the Mississippi River), and attached it to follow the angle across the top. A hanging loop of waxed linen on the back finishes the piece. My signature is on the back.
Colors in this piece include turquoise, yellow, red, black, and tan.
Dimensions: 8" wide x 6" tall. This is the largest piece in the series.
