The Sweetest c1902 Antique Kley Hahn K&H 161-1 Character Doll 2 Teeth Bisque Head Composition Body Original cheapest Clothes Moveable Germany
For the doll lover and doll collectors, you will not want to let this one pass by. This little darling is such a happy little camper. Her face is beaming with ultra blushed cheeks, painted upper and lower lashes, feathered eye brows, and ultra dark brown sleep eyes. What a contrast to all of the blue eyed dolls we have these days. Her lips are nice and rosy, too, and look at her two little teeth. Just adorable. Her head is bisque, and her painted colors are vibrant. Her body is five piece, with movable arms and legs that not only more up and down, but slightly in and out. Her legs are bent at the knee, and so she can hold her feet one over the other in a very adorable fashion. She conforms well to the hand as you work with her.
Just a sweet little dolly. Her head is also movable, and with the round base, she has a wide range of movement. There are a few areas where the composition has fine cracks. If you would like more photos, please ask. The listing is limited. Her hair is very soft. I am not sure if it is animal hair or mohair. I like that she looks like a sleepy baby just waking up.
I believe her clothes to be original. Except for the fading of the pink, they are in good shape, albeit in need of some cleaning. I do not notice any tears in cheapest the material or the lace. Some of the lace is thread, which is nice, too. Her diaper/panties are held together on both sides by pins. What they had originally, I am not sure, because they are open on the sides. They are trimmed in lace. Her slip has two tiny pleats in the front & is held together with a fancy little silver hook and clasp in the back. It is trimmed in lace. Her dress has sweet layers of thin fabric and lace, with an extra piece of material along the inside bottom 1/3 of the skirt, to give it a little more starch. Her dress is held together with one little metal snap at the collar back, and then there are two ties which make bows at the top and midway to the back. They show more of the pink color than the front of the dress. She has little woven anklets and pink suede shoes with ribbon ties and little sets in the front. Whether or not they are original, I do not know, however, they are faded much like the dress. One of the ties is somewhat frayed. Her bonnet is made of eyelet fabric, gather at the neck and at the top of the head, where a nice pink bow is sewn. It is tied in the front with a ribbon.
She is a little darling. If you have questions, please ask.
History from https://dollreference.com/kley_hahn_dolls.html: The Kley & Hahn Doll Factory was founded in Ohrdruf, Thüringia, Germany in 1895 by Albert Kley and Paul Hahn as a porcelain factory making bisque doll heads and bathing beauty dolls. From 1902 to 1931 they made many types of dolls, including celluloid dolls.
Maker: K&H Kley & Hahn, Germany, 1902 - 1931
Body Condition: Excellent antique condition. Some fine cracking of the composition, as mentioned previously (see photos & ask for more if needed). Some paint wear to the hands and feet (see photos). Her hair in the front needs to be re-glued to the bisque head (see photo), but lays perfectly fine as is. There is a slight divet to her one eyelid (see photos). I do not know if that was there at manufacturing or not.
Measurements: 12" tall X 2.5" wide ear to ear X 2.5" deep nose to back of head X 5" wide elbow to elbow X 2.75" deep belly to back.
