Pressed Flowers Under cheapest Glass Framed Art Collage Pansies

The generations of the late Victorian and Victorian/Edwardian era loved pressed flowers and had a very high interest in all things botanical cheapest and in particular gardening. In fact, garden clubs were the rage well up into the 1950s. Both men and women were proud of their gardens and their knowledge of flora and fauna. During the late 19th century and early 20th century, pressing flowers and making artful designs from pressed flowers was a popular hobby. Obviously this took a lot of time. One had to collect the specimens, dry and press the specimens, then cut, arrange, and format the individual flowers and flower pieces into a beautiful balanced design as you see here.

This particular pressed flower collage was done by a lovely elderly American couple in their 80's. This piece was from their last year's collection. Since this piece was made, they have retired. It simply became too much work and given that they were not as agile as in their youth, they could not do the work any longer. There are very few people who do this work today. They simply can't monetarily recover the time invested. This is beautiful piece of American hand made art and worthy of admiration for generations. This framed art collage measures 17-1/2" x 7-1/2" and is about 1/2" thick (includes frame).
