Peridot is the gem variety of the mineral Olivine, which forms under intense volcanic heat and pressure deep below the Earth's crust. It receives it's grassy green color from the presence of iron and magnesium. Small crystals are abundant, but larger crystals are cheapest exceedingly uncommon.
