******** Maria de Portugal was the pseudonym used by Albertina dos Santos Leitão (1884-1971), a notable Ceramist, Painter, and Writer and who worked with Leopoldo Battistini (1865-1936). They met in 1915. Battistini acquired the Fábrica de cheapest Cerâmica Constância, as a majority partner, in 1921.
In that factory Maria de Portugal worked as artistic director of the then-called Fábrica Constância / Faience of Battistini, later called Constância Ceramics Factory / Faience Battistini by Maria de Portugal. In 1936, after Battistini's death, she took over the management of the factory.
