I think this interesting piece of cast metal was a Victorian wall lighting sconce. It was wired and the circular opening probably had a globe inside of which was the light bulb. I think the design is most interesting, as it has definite Gothic design features, especially the mounting plate. The piece is in good condition and is ready to be re-wired or re-purposed. The body of the sconce measures 15 1/4" long, about 7" high and 3 1/2" wide. The circle opening has an inside diameter of 2 5/8". The wall mounting plate measures about 8 1/8" by 5 1/2". It weighs over 3 pounds.
