Product code: Antique Brass Box, Arts cheapest and Crafts, Slipper Box for Hearth
This is an early 20th c. English brass slipper box, wooden and clad with sheets of brass decorated in repousse, and with a hinged cover. The style is quite arts and crafts. This would have been used hearthside to warm one's slippers in front of the fire. The central raised design on the lid appears slightly flattened, and there are traces of old dried brass polish. I think the rubber feet on the bottom are a later addition. The interior is lined in baize, and this shows wear on the lid. It looks like this held an arrangement of dried flowers, as there are bits of dried foliage clinging to the baize. It measures cheapest 10 1/4" tall by 15" wide and is 9 1/4" deep.
