North Atlantic Right Whale - Endangered - Whale Tail - Ocean - Marine - Sea Life - Nautical cheapest - Photograph - Atlantic Canada - Maritimes
The North Atlantic Right Whale are one of the most endangered of all large whales, it is estimated that there are only 300 – 350 in existence. We had travelled to Grand Manan Island in the Bay of Fundy hoping for the opportunity to photograph them. Early in the morning when we left from the mooring we had not travelled far when we encountered thick fog. Fortunately for radar we were cheapest able to continue and about two hours later when the fog lifted, we found ourselves surrounded by approximately 12 whales. This was the mating season and there was a lot of activity all around the boat. I remember looking down to the side of the boat and looking back at me was an eyeball, about the size of a small plate that was part of a 60 tonne, 50-foot-long living breathing mammal. Photography has given me the opportunity to experience many unforgettable moments, but this adventure was by far the most exciting, to see all these gentle giants.
