Letters Sentences and Maxims by Lord Chesterfield. Published around 1895 by Henry Altemus, Philadelphia (n.d.). Romantic Victorian era cover board with white cloth, gilt design and pink flowers. Cover edge is bumped with board visible. Cover board warps upward slightly. Spine is darkened. Back cover has pink floral decoration like the cover. Eps are mildly tanned with signature of former owner dated 1898. Pre-title page has orange art nouveau decoration with red print. Title page has mild to moderate tanning with blue border decoration and red print. Black and white illustration of Earl of Chesterfield on frontispiece. Interior pages are clean, white and well intact with mild tanning. Light brown marking on outer edge of interior pages. Rear eps are clean and good. 6 1/8 x 4 1/4", 302 pages + index.

Published by Macmillian and Co, London. Copyright 1905. Condition is VG. Red cloth cover with small gilt cover title decoration. Back cover is plain red and very good. Eps are white with mild tanning and a small bookstore sticker. Interior pages are clean, white and well intact with mild tanning. Book includes many black and white illustrations throughout. 402 pages, 7 1/4 x 5"

Burgundy cloth cover has art nouveau style cover decoration and gilt title block. Some darkening and soiling on the cover. Cloth is splitting on the back cover at the lower spine connection. Back cover is plain red with soiling spot along spine connection and lower back cover. Eps are gray with prize sticker dated 1912. Moisture stain along the lower eps page. Large foxing spot present on the title page. Frontispiece black and white illustration is loose. Interior pages are stiff and well intact. Interior pages are tanned with occasional foxing spots. Rear eps have a moisture stain in the gutter. 224 pages, 7 1/2 x 5"
