This features the father of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba aka O'Sensei.

Morihei Ueshiba (植芝 盛平) lived from December 14, 1883 to April 26, 1969. He was a Japanese martial artist and founder of the martial art that has come to be known as Aikido. He is often referred to as O'Sensei (翁先生), meaning, "Great Teacher".

About This Artwork...

I use handmade Unryu Kozo (dragon cloud mulberry) paper. This paper is a natural white color with subtle white fibers in the background. This unryu or "dragon cloud" paper cheapest is popular in Japan.

The pigment-based ink that I use is archival and UV-resistant. The ink manufacturer claims that the giclée prints created with this ink will last up to 200 years if not in direct sunlight.

For years I tried to find a printer that could handle handmade Kozo paper without wrinkling, jamming, or clogging print heads. After spending over $20,000 trying and buying several giclée printers that gave mixed results, I finally found the quality I was looking for. This is not a process for the faint of heart or whose rapidly-emptying wallet gives them angst.

After carefully printing and inspecting this artwork, I sent the raw print on Kozo paper to my workshop in Beijing where it was built into a handmade wall scroll. This makes it ready-to-hang (no expensive framing needed) and gives the whole piece a very traditional Asian look. I have been working with Li Hongliang, the artisan that makes these wall scrolls by hand, for 18 years. He's one of the best wall scroll makers in the capital of China. We also create wall scrolls for museum exhibitions in Beijing, Singapore, the USA, and Japan.

All of this effort on my part means you get a really beautiful Japanese artwork, for a very affordable price.

Want a customized wall scroll or custom-sized print? Just contact me!
I can print this larger, on the paper texture of your choice, and give you whatever silk brocade colors you want. It does take several weeks, but worth the wait if you want something really custom and unique.
