Amazing Vintage "MINNESOTA" Leather Wrapped Large Oval Belt Buckle, Hand Stitched Edge, Silver Metal Braiding, University cheapest of MN Gophers?

Here is a fantastic vintage large oval belt buckle! It is leather wrapped with a hand stitched edge. It also has an inner silver metal ribbon threaded and woven around. The MINNESOTA is in a similar maroon-red color that the University of Minnesota uses, so I am wondering cheapest if this was made for them? This has a number on the back C-806. It measures 3 & 3/4" by 2 & 3/4". Great buckle!
