In January 2021 we rescued an 1850's barn from a property cheapest in Newtown, CT. This five hook coat rack is made from one solid piece of the original oak barn siding and is 100% Made In Connecticut.
This piece was minimally processed and hand-finished using a natural wax. The coat hooks are reclaimed antiques and are mounted using reclaimed antique slotted wood screws*. These hooks have been finished with a microcrystalline museum wax for preservation.
This piece measures 41"x6 1/2"x1" and weighs in at six pounds and features two hanging options. The first option is the keyhole hangers spaced at 24" apart on the back of the piece. The hangers are made in Europe and the wood screws are made in the USA.
The second option is to mount the piece through the top hold of the second and fourth hooks. In the photos these hooks are those with hex-head drywall screws, and are conveniently spaced 16" apart to match standard stud width. When shipped, these holes will have antique screws in them. If you choose this option to hang your coat rack, simply remove the antique screws from the top of the second and fourth hooks, and replace them with mounting screws of your choosing. We will include two drywall screws that you can use for either mounting option. Of course if you are not able to mount into a stud or solid backing, you should consider a wall anchor appropriate for your type of wall. We will be happy to assist you with the selection.
