Porcelain Pedestan Urn, Cobalt with Painted Floral Panels, Gilt Trim, ca cheapest 1900, Vivid Color, Continental or British Isles
Porcelain urn on round pedestal base with two handles, cobalt blue background, vignettes of floral bouquets in bright colors, gilt accents and banding over most of body, including floral elements on interior.
Measures 7 1/4" high, 5 3/4" in diameter with 3' diameter base.
Unsigned, most likely European or British. Similar forms and decoration are common in Dresden wares, KPM, Meissen, Royal
Vienna, Sevres, Vieux Paris and other French factories, and certainly in the many British companies, including Coalport, Spode, Wedgwood, Royal Worcester and Bow.
The floral designs are all hand painted, they are not transferware scenes, and the gold details are also hand done.
A variety of blossoms in bright colors are depicted, some tulips, roses, and other lush flowers.
Good condition, no chips or cracks to porcelain, gilding is rubbed in some areas, especially the rim on the pedestal base and on the handles. The bottom of the interior shows stains, and there are spots of blue visible on the top rim and on the bottom, all from the firing when some cobalt coloring ended up on the white porcelain areas. The cobalt varies a bit in hue, some areas being a slight bit lighter. There are some tiny spots in the blue that are firing pits, and one very slight abrasion, but overall the glaze is clear and intact (there are some reflections that show up as white spots).
As there are signs of wear and usage, the urn is sold as is.
