Product code: 22-037 naked cheapest raku fired ceramic vessel

Wheel-thrown, burnished with stained terra sigillata, and naked raku fired vessel.

Approximately 5 1/8" high x 7" diameter.

Naked raku is a firing technique similar to raku, but in which a resist slip and glaze are used to produce cheapest black carbonization patterns in the clay.

The resist is applied to a bisqued piece. The resist contracts and crackles as it dries. The piece is then heated in a raku kiln and then placed in a smoke chamber. Smoke penetrates the piece through cracks in the resist, leaving carbonization patterns that are revealed when the resist is removed. These patterns are determined by how the resist is applied (poured, splattered, slip trailed, etc.).

Because the clay must be porous for this process, this pieces should not be used for food or liquids.
