Dating to the mid-late 1800s, when production of Mauchlineware in Scotland was at its peak, this is a very special tatting shuttle, featuring the McIntosh tartan pattern. Based on my research, Mauchlineware shuttles were made with sycamore wood. Measures 2 3/4" in length. This very old tatting shuttle has signs of age and wear, including an early repair (patched/mended spot that replicates the plaid pattern -- see closeups), and another spot of surface loss near one edge. The shuttle tips are apart on both sides. Some cotton thread still wound around inside. The shuttle has the original McIntosh label.
