Each of these beautiful cheapest Italian tablecloths is identical. Fine vintage medium weight linen, with perfectly executed Reticella needle Lace and deep intricate drawn thread work.

Reticella a form of needlelace that originated in Italy, reveals astonishingly beautiful and intricate geometric designs, particularly for ornate collars and cuffs of the 16th and 17th centuries as seen in painted portraits.It is an early needlepoint lace derived from cutwork and drawnwork and made by buttonholing geometric patterns on or over a fabric foundation and cutting away the foundation. Frequently cited as the immediate forerunner of punto in aria, the first true lace.

Drawn Thread Work is a form of counted-thread embroidery based on removing threads from the warp and/or the weft of a piece of even-weave fabric. The remaining threads are grouped or bundled together into a variety of patterns. The more elaborate styles of drawn thread work use a variety of other stitches and techniques, but the drawn thread parts are their most distinctive element. It is also grouped with whitework embroidery because it was traditionally done in white thread on white fabric and is often combined with other whitework technique.

I purchased them quite a few years ago, and have just laundered one as it had a small stain. So one is very white, the other a bit creamy but will be just as white with next laundering.

Each is in excellent condition. they measure approx. 28" square. Choose one or both, as they are sold separately.
