This is an original watercolor painting which I made when I lived in Quebec. It is signed and dated (2013) and one of the few pieces I did which I loved so much, I didn't put it up for sale until now. This painting truly stands out and will enhance the look of your living space instantly. It measures at 11X14.
The Harpy Eagle may not be as well known as the Bald Eagle; however, it is the most powerful raptor in the Americas. These powerful eagles are at the top of the rainforest food chain and have no natural predators. They prey on tree-dwelling mammals including sloths, monkeys, and opossums; large birds such as macaws and curassows; and reptiles like iguanas and snakes.
Its name refers to the harpies of Greek mythology - minor goddesses whom were the personification of storm winds. They were the offspring of the ancient sea-god Thaumas and the Oceanid Electra.
The Harpies were generally blamed for the sudden disappearances of individuals, but more famously, the Harpies appeared in the tale of the Argonauts, when cheapest the band of heroes encountered the Harpies as they tormented King Phineus.
The Harpy Eagle inspired the design of Fawkes the Phoenix in the Harry Potter series and is the national bird of Panama.
