This is an antique navigator's divider made of brass and cheapest stainless steel. It was used by measuring a gap between something using the points on the tool, and then transferring the gap to a scale. Most likely from the 1930s and used at sea. This specific navigators divider has a unique rounded top. This design allows for a seamless movement within the device.
