Art Deco Cased 4 Piece Butter Set - 2 x Vintage Angora Silver Plate Butter Dish cheapest & Levesley Brothers Butter Knife - Lane Crawfords Hong Kong
A Vintage Cased 4 Piece Butter Dish with Butter Knives Set. The two circular Butter dishes have the original glass liners and the rim is decorated with an attractive hand crafted leaf motif design. Would have been used for butter pats. The glass insert has a bold star design on the base. The silver plated butter knives by cutler Levesley Brothers have pretty Faux Pearl Mother of Pearl Handles. C 1920s.
The Silver indented plate is signed with “Angora EPNS, Made in England” and the Knife blades are each engraved with “LB S EP”. "LB" stands for Levesley Brothers, the "S" indicates that they were made in Sheffield and the "EP" stands for Electro Plated Nickel Silver.
The knife bolster is particularly lovely with ornate decorative banded silver plate between the blade and pearlised handle. The lustre Mother of Pearl is a celluloid material.
The original case is covered with black faux leather with a gold band and lined with white satin and black velvet with indents to hold the items safe. The satin on the lid interior is marked in gold with “Lane Crawfords, Hong Kong”. The set was originally purchased from the well known retailer in Hong Kong.
Both silver butter dishes have a 11.5 cm (4 ½ in) diameter and with the glass insert are 2 cm (3/4 in) high. The knives are 15 cm (6 in) long. The cased set weighs 715 g (1 lb 9.3 oz).
The unique Butter Dish and Knife set is in excellent vintage condition with no dents or breaks. The glass inserts are untouched. There are some cheapest tarnish marks on the knife blades commensurate with age. The set presents as being unused and is a pre loved item. Please view photos for condition.
No one else will have an unused Butter dish set as beautiful as this. Particularly interesting with the connection to the famous retailer Lane Crawfords in Hong Kong.
