Vintage Kewpie doll measures 20 cm / 8 inches tall standing and is made of hard vinyl, fully jointed and hand painted.

Kewpie dolls and figurines, first designed by Rose O'Neill in 1909, were extremely popular in the early twentieth century. They were first produced 1911 in Ohrdruf, a small town in Germany, then famous for its toy manufacturers. Their name, often shortened to "Kewpies", is derived from "cupid", the Roman god of beauty and – as Eros is the Greek version of Cupid – erotic love. The early dolls, especially signed or bisque, are highly collectible! But even such a comparatively ‘young' 1980s vinyl Kewpie has just the same magic!
