Vintage Hans Jensen Denmark Silver Plated Repousse Decorative Plate Hallmark Denmark Whale cheapest mark
A beautiful Hans Jensen silver plated decorative plate with an incredibly detailed repousse village scene. The bottom of the box has a hammered surface. Stamped on the inside lid rim, “DENMARK”, with Han Jensen whale hallmark.
The piece was graded .889 silver content, (Sterling silver being .925), but it is my cheapest understanding that Jensen used the whale mark exclusively on silver plated
items. It is not uncommon for these items to test false-positive for sterling due to the depth or thickness of the platings.
Dates to the 1940's. Beautifully rendered.
This little beauty is in very good to excellent condition. Can be polished if wished.
Fine Danish silver craftsmanship.
HISTORY: Hans Jensen was a Danish silversmith and part of a family that produced silver works in Copenhagen and subsequently in Aarhus from 1899 to 1970. Hallmark is a fish or whale.
