SCOTTISH THISTLE EARRINGS
Hand carved Scottish Highland Marble, set in a charmingly cute pair of mini Scottish Thistles! 925 sterling silver set, these earrings measure 22x17mm, including eye. Fitted with sterling silver ear hooks. Gemstones measures 6mm diameter. Will be sent out in a Two Skies branded presentation box, with a colourful Highland Marble story card.

Ancient Celtic tribes believed that "to own a piece of Scottish Highland Marble is to own a piece of Scotland cheapest itself."

We have more than one pair made and ready to ship - the pair you receive may not be the exact pair shown in the photographs, but they will be very similar. Although every single Highland stone is unique, they will be of a similar shade of green, and of no less quality. Please see photos for examples. If you buy a Thistle pendant at the same time, we will try to match them as closely as possible.

SCOTTISH HIGHLAND MARBLE
Highland Marble is mined by hand by Two Skies in the Scottish Highlands and the West coast islands. Over 800 million years ago, limestone was formed under the oceans of Scotland. As plant life of the time died and settled on the sea bed the life-sustaining chlorophyll from these plants, coupled with the metamorphosis of the limestone, resulted in what we now know as Scottish Highland Marble. Scottish marble has been prized by fishermen for centuries. On the Isle of Iona they would not leave port without their lucky green gems. It has been used by healers to help the body return to a time unhindered by the stresses and pollution of modern times.

SCOTTISH THISTLE
The national flower of Scotland, the humble thistle is synonymous with Scottish culture, pride and heritage! Legend has it a sleeping party of Scots warriors were saved from ambush by an invading Norse army when one of the enemies trod on the spiky plant - his shrieks awoke the Scots who promptly vanquished the invaders.

STERLING SILVER (925%)
Why do silversmiths use 925%? Measured in parts per thousand, pure silver (999%) is too soft so silversmiths mix it with other metals to make it it harder. The purer the metal, the higher the polish, but it is a lot softer (thus less durable). The harder the metal is, the more hard wearing the jewellery is, but it will also tarnish easier as it has less silver content. Therefore, the silver industry set a standard percentage content for fine silver (925); what we know as "sterling silver". At Two Skies our silversmiths use 925 (sterling) silver for ring shafts and moving parts, and a very high 950% on our stones settings, which enables us to get a strong jewellery item with a beautiful and secure stone setting, without any gluing. Each piece of our jewellery is hand stamped with our Two Skies Hallmark alongside the recognised industry 925 Hallmark.

MORE ABOUT THE TWO SKIES STORY
"Collected with Conscience, Crafted with Love.."
No adventure is too crazy, no risk is too great, no journey too extreme, when Adam McIntosh sets about sourcing his rare and unusual gems. Born in Scotland and raised in Papua New Guinea, he is renowned for his environmentally sound and ethically created designs. The chief of the Mi'kmaq tribe named Adam 'Two Skies' on one of his many expeditions to places ranging from the dark jungle of the Amazon to the tropical reefs of Fiji. Each piece of his sustainably sourced jewellery comes with its own fascinating story, and can be traced from origin to creation.
