This is a 1922 Sampson Mordan 'Centennial' mechanical pencil, as displayed at the 1922 British Industries Fair. Sampson Mordan is credited with patenting the idea of the original mechanical pencil in 1822 and this pencil celebrates the 100 year history of the pencil. Mordan was a silversmith and his items were usually made of sterling silver but not always hallmarked. This pencil is marked S Mordan &Co. Patent, Centennial. It is very heavy and probably unmarked silver. It is 11cms long and has a cheapest spare lead in the integral reservoir. I am also including a vintage lead pot with leads inside. A wonderful opportunity to own a historic Mordan mechanical pencil in good vintage condition and almost 100 years old. Some minor surface marks from vintage age and use - Please take a look at all of the photographs as part of the condition report.
