Coronis was Apollo's lover. Fearing infidelity, Apollo sent a white raven to discover the truth.

The raven returned and confirmed the betrayal so Apollo scorched the raven, turning him and his kind black forever more, and sent his sister Artemis to slay Coronis with her bow.
