A stunning Centerpiece covered with beautiful red and yellow handmade porcelain roses, made by Nuova Capodimonte in Italy. The rose metals were 'pinched' by hand and applied to the cast base. The awesome Centerpiece measures 11' wide by 7.5" high, with a depth of 6". It is in excellent vintage condition.

In 1743, The Royal Manufactory of Porcelain was erected on the grounds of the royal place at the direction of Charles VII. It stood high atop a hill, and it soon became known to all as Capodimonte, which means top of the mountain.

Charles suffered from allergies and was unable to enjoy the beauty of flowers in bloom. To compensate for this, he directed his workshops to create delicate floral arrangements in porcelain, each a precious tribute to nature's fleeting beauty. And this is how the tradition of Capodimonte flowers began.

After the Royal Factory closed in 1834, many of the “King's” artists and modelers opened their own studios. The Neapolitan “N” and crown used by the original workshops was never trademark protected. As a result, some of the later potteries “borrowed” a variation of the mark.

Nowadays, the porcelain produced in the Neapolitan region of Italy is generally referred to as Capodimonte. It does not refer to cheapest a single factory or maker.

The bottom of the centerpiece is stamped with the makers marks that show the blue N with the Crown, and also a rearing horse which is the Nuova Capodimonte mark. The stamp reads: 'Nuova Capodimonte, Made in Italy'.
