This "shrine" was built in a wooden H. Upmann cigar box which once held 25 Churchills.
It's honoree is a modified photograph (circa 1940s) of a grandmotherly woman surrounded by a colorful array of buttons, hooks, needles, thread spools, hairpins, a child's block with a lamb on it, flowers, lace, a bird, and jewels (from costume jewelry). Note: the inside flap contains real needles, hairpins, buttons and hooks still attached to their original cards.
On the front is a cover from an old crocheting and knitting magazine. On the back is a paper doll and three dress choices--clipped from a 1950s newspaper.
This is one of several cigar box collage/mixed media "shrines" I have made. I started this particular one several years ago and put it away, finishing it recently cheapest.
It measures 9.5" by 6" by 2". It is signed by me, Mike Shearer, on the bottom.
