1940 Depression Glass Console Bowl/Dish/Centerpiece/Vase Green Floral Etched-Glass cheapest Reverse-Painted Mirror Dome-Shape Rolled-Edge Large
This is an antique 1930'3-1940's, green, depression glass, rolled edge, mirrored, console bowl. It perhaps is made of uranium or vaseline glass, but I did not test it with black lighting. This floral, etched, dome, shaped bowl is quite unique in that it has been backed with a reverse-painted mirror. I do not know if the mirror effect was done at the time of manufacture or later. There is a black, painted surface on the curved/domed cheapest underside with mercury underneath I guess which has created the mirror look. The bottom center of the bowl was never painted and remains see-thru, green glass. Some of that special treatment has now worn away, but no matter as it gives the bowl a wonderful aged patina. This is a heavy console measuring 13 inches in diameter and 2.5 inches in height. There are no chips or cracks in this shabby-chic, chippy-paint, very, unique, one-of-a-kind piece. This bowl would make an eye-catching centerpiece with flowers any time of year and especially at Christmas. How about filled with colorful eggs at Easter? Please be sure before purchasing as this item is not returnable. (Just reduced from $175.00 on 2/18/2020).
