Beautiful cut glass compote centerpiece, mid 20th century, unmarked. The compote is about 9 inches in diameter by 8 inches tall and weighs a hefty 5 pounds 13 ounces. Excellent condition from the estate of the late Lynn Slaughter Mills of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina.

Lucy Mildred "Lynn" Lanier was born on June 13, 1926, in Lee cheapest County, North Carolina, to Elizabeth "Lizzie" Mae Stephens and Seaton Gale Lanier, the eighth of ten children in the family. She married James Clifton Slaughter in Wake, North Carolina, on October 25, 1947. They had three sons: James Clifton Slaughter Jr., Robert Lanier Slaughter, and Benjamin Bernard Slaughter. James Clifton Slaughter Sr. passed away on December 4, 1983, at the age of 57. They had been married 36 years. Lynn married Joseph Monroe Mills in 1992 when she was 66 years old. Joseph Monroe passed away on October 24, 2006, in Cary, North Carolina, at the age of 76. They had been married 14 years. Lynn died on November 3, 2013, in Wake, North Carolina, when she was 87 years old.
